Plant Propagation

"Grow your own plant stock"

Plant propagation is the process of creating new plants from a variety of sources: seeds, cuttings, bulbs and other plant parts.  Seed saving lets you save plant types & continue growing the varieties that have adjusted & performed in your climate and soil type.  
This workshop will teach you that apart from the great fun of growing plants, propagating your own plant stock, allows you to grow a wider variety of heritage & heirloom plants not seen in nurseries.
Learn what it takes to save seed, create your own personal nursery, expand your orchard, herbs and vegetables, continue heirloom & heritage stock & save money in the process.

 

The workshop includes:

  • Taking cuttings

  • Root & Tuber division

  • Layering

  • Grafting

  • Repair of damaged plants

  • Preparation of seed raising and potting mix

Garden Construction Techniques

Plus "Know your Tools"

We all watch with amazement as experienced gardeners build all forms of structures to support and protect their precious crops from animals, birds and insects.
Well this workshop will explain some of these construction techniques & will give you hands on experience constructing a "Walk-in Netted Tunnel", building a "Raised bed" and much more.
Let us also reduce your back ache from using the wrong tools, by presenting a wide range of gardening tools, showcasing their uses and efficient techniques.

 

 

The workshop includes:

  • Building a solid walk-in netted tunnel including site set-out

  • Building a no-dig garden within the tunnel

  • Installing weed suppressing walkways

  • Demonstration on the correct use of:
           - Spades, Shovels & Forks
           - Hoes & Cultivators
           - Hammers & Picket drivers
           - Saws (Hand, Electric and Petrol)
           - Essential electrical & battery operated tools

This two day introduction course is a prelude to the 72hr Permaculture Design Certificate & will help equip you to apply sustainable permaculture design principles and elements to your property, home, kitchen garden or apartment balcony & will inspire you to create your own sustainable space.

Maximising your Harvest means getting the most from your garden regardless of size, ensuring an abundance of vegies and herbs you never thought possible..!

This workshop will prepare you for an SPRING CROP & teach you how to get the most out of every square metre of your Patch by utilising intensive companion planting groups, vegetable/herb stacked system, vertical & overhead gardening, sustainable crop rotation, pest / disease prevention and management, plus much more.

 

 

The workshop includes:

  • Basic Soil identification & testing

  • Composting & soil enhancement

  • ‘No-dig’ bed construction techniques

  • Spring plant selection & Plant timelines (succession planting)

  • Intensive companion growing and stacked planting systems

  • Incorporating vertical & overhead gardening into your patch

  • The importance of rotating vege crops

  • Pest prevention & management (Beneficial plants, insects & pest exclusion methods)

  • Identifying plant nutrient deficiencies

  • Mulching (various methods)

  • Basic Seed Saving techniques - harvest, cleaning & storage

The fundamentals of all garden & farm success is based on the quality of your soil, learn what your plants need from the soil to thrive.

A healthy soil is alive, it breaths, recycles waste, stores nutrients, cleans water & provides an environment for a huge variety of living organisms.

This workshop will dig deep to walk you through everything you need to know about your soil, repairing and building highly productive soils quickly.

We will also show you various Composting techniques, including how to make fabulous compost in 21 days, together with an introduction into making ‘Biochar’ and 'Compost teas'.

All to give your homestead garden & farm the best possible headstart.

  • Understanding your soils > sand, silt & clay

  • Practical techniques for repairing soil & soil improvement

  • Getting your hands dirty testing soil for composition, pH levels, texture, water holding & cation exchange

Poultry & Small Animal Management

In Permaculture, animals are of the utmost importance for maintaining the balance on your Farm, Homstead & Garden ecosystem.

Learn how differing species relate to each other & to their surrounding environment, understand selection and management of different types of animals in a permaculture design.

This workshop covers the role of poultry, bees, pigs, goats & sheep and their integration into your farm & homestead garden.

Learn to utilise animals, whether you breed for food, friendship or income, they can earn their keep too and assist you in the garden, such as insect and weed control, naturally fertilise, act as property guards & recycle green waste.

We will discuss the benefits and difficulties of free range animal management and how to supply them feed from your garden.

Seed Saving

Saving for the Future..!

Seed saving is a great starting point for developing a strong foundation for your produce, it allows you to take control of your seed supply, continue heritage & heirloom supply,  provides acclimatised quality produce and saves you money in the process.

 

This workshop will demonstrate & advise you on the various methods of seed saving & seed storage to build up your very own quality seed supply.

We will cover the self-seeding garden, saving seeds of annual and biennial crops, how to produce quality seeds, improving a variety by selection and much more.

Well If you have undertaken an 'Intro to Permaculture' or a PDC, this workshop will help you get your ideas off the gound, refresh the design process & ensure you finish the day with a basic Permaculture Design & plan to take home...! 

We will walk you step-by-step through to the phases that lead to your final design, as well as touch on the implementation phase.
